find news of current and forthcoming activities as well as an archive
of past events and documents that we have produced
We believe that effective
regeneration of areas that have seen the collapse of defining industries
should be led by an understanding of community narratives rather than
a focus on the built infrastructure and the attraction and retention
of new businesses.
New Ground is a project to develop events and community
narratives as a focus of change in peripheral regions that have lost
their defining industries. Currently, the internal narrative of a community
is rarely captured or articulated, but cultural activities can be the
focus for a transformation of that narrative: the equivalent of grief
work at a community level.
The New Ground project is part of the Rural Community Development Programme funded by the Carnegie UK Trust
